Elaphomyces granulatus has a tough outer rind that is not marbled in
cross-section like that of Elaphomyces muricatus. When mature, the
interior of Elaphomyces is full of black spore powder. They can resemble
Scleroderma cepa, but lack the prominent sterile base.
