Gymnomyces brunnescens is common in Douglas-fir forests of the Willamette
Valley. The interior (gleba) is white when fresh but soon bruises brownish. All
Gymnomyces truffles are closely related to the mushroom genus Russula.
G. brunnescens and G. subochraceus are very similar and may be the same species.
