In Ascomycetes, the spores are formed inside of sock-shaped
structures called asci. This is a picture of the asci and spores of a
Hydnotrya variiformis as viewed through a microscope at 400x
magnification. Each small tick mark on the scale is 2.5 microns
(one four-hundredth of a millimeter).
