Alpova diplophleus associates exclusively with alder trees (other Alpovas associate
with other trees). The genus Alpova is closely related to Rhizopogon but is
distinguished by the white marbling in the interior. Alpovas were named after a
distinguished mycologist of the early 20th century, Dr. Alfred Povah.
